NEW VICTORIAN PURSES

The mythology of the Old West, with pioneer spirit and clear moral contrasts, exerts a powerful influence on all who grew up in America and elsewhere as well, judging from the prevalence of cowboy and cowgirl iconography worldwide.

I was first introduced to the artwork of KC Willis at a show in Colorado Springs.  The moment I looked upon her ladies I was mesmerized.  KC has captured the spirt of the American Woman as unlike any other.  Her artwork is currently available at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame and Museum in Ft. Worth as well as galleries in Austin, San Angelo, Scottsdale, San Diego, Charlotte North Carolina and Vail, Colorado

KC Willis creates mixed media cowgirl collages with attitude. The Santa Fe, New Mexico, artist says of the women in her Lipstick Ranch Collection: "They were tough, strong, beautiful and brave. They were the Women of the West. They are my heroes." As realized in KCs art, these women speak to us: "I aint afraid to love a man, and I aint afraid to shoot one," warns a character identified only as "Martha". A novelist and former country singer, KC often supplies the words for her protagonists; "fiber fiction" she calls it. "Cowboys and Indians" magazine referred to Ks work as a "delightful mix of vintage treasures, textures and materials". The result, according to an article in New Yorks "Gallery & Studio" magazine, is a "richly patterned and textured surface ... that pays tribute to the strong and fascinating women who helped to make the west wild. Each of the pieces available from Western Gold will be created by KC on your order, so each will be one of a kind. In her Santa Fe, New Mexico, studio KC creates wonderful mixed media fiber collages that feature the women of Americas old West - women KC refers to as "flowers of the prairie". From her palette of unprimed canvas, pillow ticking, vintage calico, old velvet brocades and photo transfer images of the cowgirl characters KC produces what New Yorks "Gallery & Studio" magazine calls a "richly patterned and textured surface ... that pays tribute to the strong and fascinating women who helped to make the west wild."
